FB Craig Dunain-3

Craig Dunain Hospital

The Mission

ROAVR were commissioned to carryout a roof survey to feed into a depilation report on the old Craig Dunain Hospital in Inverness. This building is to be re-developed as part of a housing scheme and requires extensive renovation works following a lack of maintenance and vandalism since its closure in 1999.

Planning

After our fee proposal was accepted ROAVR began the planning process. We obtained all necessary permissions which included in this case speaking to neighbouring properties that were close to the old Hospital.

As a belts and braces approach ROAVR informed the local SAR and air ambulance services of our intended area of operations and the duration.

ROAVR produced a comprehensive combined risk assessment method statement and briefed workers on site as this was an active construction site.

On site

ROAVR initially captured 4k video of the entire roof area manually. This enabled the inspection engineers to review the inspection footage multiple times (in the warm!) and zoom in on any areas of concern.

Following the video flights ROAVR captured still imagery of the entire roof and facias, part of this mission was flown completely autonomously. We were instructed to concentrate on a particular area that had been damaged by fire and was deemed to dangerous to approach conventionally.

ROAVR advantage

The inspection was completed in 3 days capturing detailed imagery over nearly 2ha of roof space.

Time is money, inspections carried out using scaffold, rope access and mobile elevating work platforms takes time and multiple setups are required. Sometimes even the simplest of inspections end up being extremely time consuming and costly.

For a fraction of the cost our UAV’s can facilitate rapid and detailed data capture, we are able to de-risk the entire inspection process and mobilise to any location on land or offshore.
