ROAVR were originally commissioned in February 2016 to document the construction of the Errol Estate Solar Farm in Perthshire by London based METKA EGN. A global PV specialist with an extensive portfolio. Following on from this project ROAVR were then asked to visit a further seventeen sites across the U.K from Cornwall in the south to North Wales in the West and Yorkshire and Norfolk in the east. The solar farms ranged from 4-28Mw.
Seventeen individual flight planning packages were created and two teams deployed. All the required data was obtained over a three week period of reasonably settled weather. ROAVR’s pilots had to liaise with multiple aviation professionals including RAF Brize Norton and Exeter Air Traffic Control to obtain the correct permissions.
ROAVR used a hexacopter fitted with a Panasonic GH4, a hexacopter with a Sony A6000 and A7Rii stills cameras and a DJI Inspire 1 professional to capture the required data. Two fully equipped vehicles were used depending on the sites access constraints. Teams were able to have welfare and charging facilities on site and were permanently on the road for two weeks.
Following data collection the office and production team correlated over 3GB of still photos and edited them. Over 45GB of video was edited into a client specified promotional video which can be viewed here. ROAVR are specialists in multiple site visits across the U.K were unmanned technology needs to be utilised in a high pressure and time constrained manner.
